Pause Workshop

The idea of pause workshop focuses on the need to nurture love and kindness towards the self. This might sound so simple but when one is practising art and living an unconventional life, the same becomes extremely difficult, urgent and indispensable. Without loving the self and without being kind to the being within, it becomes impossible to lead fulfilling lives.

In the world we live in today, it is extremely difficult to hold oneself together at all times. We stumble, we fall and we grope in the dark. We become so easily filled with self doubts; sometimes all it takes is an unsupportive word from someone we look up to. We increasingly seek approval from others and this greatly affects the work that we do. We do not hesitate to place our self worth on the hands of strangers scrolling through their phone screens. We have an unhealthy relationship with money in life and most often we find ourselves in the midst of crossroads. How then, must we meander through these inconvenient structures we’ve built around ourselves?

There is no one way or the right way of doing things. These are some of the questions we’d like to ask and seek answers to during the workshop.

The workshop is open for anyone who uses the camera as a form of self-expression and those with the need to strengthen their practice. We believe mindful practices can enable us to deal with challenges, stress and hardships we may face both from the inside and the outside. We will take time to reflect on the person that we are, the person we once were and the person we hope to become.

Balaji Maheshwar is a photographer and filmmaker from Chennai. He believes that his works are autobiographical in nature and that through his relationship with the outside world, he is able to observe and understand the inner being. The experience of having looked at death and loss closely and their repetition has made him look at life as one long tunnel through which we pass. Through his works he inquires into themes of trauma, relationship, loss and living.
