Cuckoo Conversations – Bindhu Malini

“Having been trained in Hindustani and Carnatic music, I have developed a clarity about music. Also, Kabir Das’s words helped me connect with music in a meaningful way. At one point, I asked myself, “What am I doing? What’s the music for me?”. I’m not sure if there’s a personal sensibility that creeps into music because I’m a woman. I don’t think music is possible only by a particular person. Anyone with a loving heart can get into music. A man can bring a lot of depth and nuance into his music if he wants to.” – BINDHUMALINI

Bindhu Malini, who speaks so openly about her music, is known today as a singer and composer. She also adapted herself as an accomplished actor in theatre and later collaborated with music director Vedant Bharadwaj to create music albums. Her first album, ‘Suno Bhai’, is a collection of Kabir’s poems. Also, Bindhu Malini and Vedant composed music for the Tamil film ‘Aruvi’. She won the National Award for Best Female Voice for the song she sang in the Kannada film, ‘Nadhicharami’. She travels all over India to perform the poetic songs of Kabir and other mystics in public.

On 20.04.2020, musician Bindhu Malini shared her experiences in the Cuckoo Live Conversations. We conversed with a loving soul that alternated between wakefulness and silence and created harmony in the heart, expressing in a voice of tenderness and harmonising moments as visions.
